Sound artistry
A maximalist rescoring of Hans Richters 1928 horror. The piece centres around the digital manipulation of acoustic instruments including: vocals, guitar, violin, viola, digeridoo and hulusi. The audio also employs raw, unedited sound from the Prophet 08, Mother 32 and Korg Prologue. Additionally, both foley and musique concrète experimental work were utilised from knocks, clicks and scratches on a number of different materials and foley water sound.
Informed by the unsettling nature of Uncanny Valley, vocals and hulusi were both employed to provide a basis of the eerie soundscape - suggesting something almost human. Whereas the multiple synths used provide a heavy oppressive feeling to the sound world touching on the battle between human and machine.
A short exploration of sound design techniques used in horror synced to an unsettling short piece of footage.
This includes recordings of guitar, hulusi, synth and foundsound - sent through heavily digitised effects chain.
